Frequently Asked Questions:

What is recruitment?

Recruitment is a non-binding period where you to get to intimately meet sisters and see first-hand what makes our sisterhood so unique. Each event is specifically tailored to give you a sense of our mission and values, and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions about becoming a sister. This is a chance to meet new people, participate in interactive activities, and learn about the daily functioning and benefits of the sorority. It's a great time to ask any questions you may have about Delta Phi Lambda, sorority life, or the Greek system.

When does recruitment start?

We encourage interested women to get to know us through our year-round educational programs, philanthropic activities and social events. This is an opportunity to see our amazing sisters in their element, giving back to their communities. Formal recruitment periods start at the beginning of each semester. The recruitment period lasts 2-3 weeks.

How much does it cost to participate in recruitment?

Nothing! All recruitment events for interested women are paid for by the sorority. Sisters will arrange and provide rides, supplies, and food.

What happens after recruitment?

A formal bid, or invitation, will be extended to women who have demonstrated shared values and standards of philanthropic passions, good character, financial responsibility and leadership ability among others.

What are the requirements in order to join Delta Phi Lambda?

We welcome any undergraduate female of all nationalities who share a common goal of promoting Asian Awareness through sisterhood. In addition you must:

  • have a minimum GPA of 2.75

  • attend 2/3 of the formal recruitment events

  • participate in a formal interview at the end of recruitment

Do I have to be Asian to be a member of Delta Phi Lambda?

Absolutely not! As an Asian-interest sorority, we are looking for passionate, dedicated, and spirited young women who will advocate for the minority experience and can bring a unique perspective to the organization. As such, we do not discriminate membership on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status or disability. Undergraduate females from any and all backgrounds who share our values in promoting Asian awareness and female leadership are highly encouraged to participate in recruitment or start a chapter on their campus.

Do I have a chance to receive a bid if I am a junior, senior, international or a non-traditional aged student?

Of course! We do not discriminate on your class standing or age. We have had many sisters initiate into the sorority as a junior, senior, international and non-traditional aged student. They have the same opportunities as underclassman to receive a bid and to create a memorable sorority experience. Plus, this is an everlasting sisterhood. We give many opportunities after graduation to continue giving back to the sorority.

Does your sorority haze?

No chapter, colony, member or alumna of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. condones hazing in any form. For more information about hazing and our policy on it, check out our policies page.
